President Rashid Urges Political Unity Ahead of Elections


Baghdad: The President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, has urged all political factions to participate in the forthcoming elections, extending his call to include those groups that have previously announced their intention to boycott.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, President Rashid emphasized the importance of unity among political forces during an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo. He reiterated Iraq’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause, denouncing recent acts of aggression in the region. The President highlighted the need for the international community to respect UN resolutions and expressed appreciation for Spain’s support of Palestinian rights.



In addressing security concerns, President Rashid condemned the violation of Iraqi airspace during recent conflicts and discussed efforts to bolster national defense capabilities. He underscored the importance of state control over weaponry and highlighted ongoing negotiations regarding the presence of international coalition forces in Iraq.



President Rashid also addressed the persistent threat of ISIS, acknowledging its reduced influence but warning against complacency. He pointed out the atrocities committed against groups such as the Yazidis and emphasized the necessity of continued vigilance.



Discussion with the Kurdistan Regional Government remains a priority, focusing on revenue sharing and administrative issues. The President stressed the need for an oil and gas law to resolve these matters. He also called for collaborative efforts to address corruption and other national challenges.



Reflecting on Iraq’s progress since the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime, President Rashid noted improvements in security, economic development, and international relations. He concluded by affirming Iraq’s commitment to democracy and the well-being of its citizens.
