Mosul: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stressed the need for development operations to preserve Mosul’s historical heritage.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office revealed that Al-Sudani conducted a field visit to the project focused on developing and reconstructing the riverfront of Mosul’s Old City. He took the opportunity to review the progress of the ongoing work.

Al-Sudani underscored the area’s importance due to its historical symbolism and its heritage, archaeological, and religious sites. The reconstruction project has been coordinated between various ministries and the local government, with design input from a Spanish company. He emphasized the adoption of heritage standards in collaboration with UNESCO, acknowledging the value of this area and the city.

The Prime Minister reiterated the necessity of preserving the historical heritage, highlighting its significance for the global community, not just Iraq. The objective is to maintain the identity of the place while reconstructing it according to established priorities. The project, initiated this year, encompasses the organization of the Old City’s riverfront between the Old Bridge and the Fifth Bridge along the Tigris River. It also involves the construction of a corniche, a boat dock, and 273 heritage homes, alongside the establishment of recreational parks and comprehensive infrastructure works, including water, sewage, electricity, and communications systems.
