Beirut: The Ministry of Justice announced a successful legal outcome for Rafidain Bank in a lawsuit before the Lebanese judiciary, safeguarding Iraq from the obligation to pay substantial financial sums.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry revealed that the Lebanese plaintiffs had initially filed a lawsuit with the Beirut Commercial Court, seeking financial claims from Rafidain Bank and the Iraqi government. The Ministry’s Legal Department, particularly the Directorate of External Claims Management, played a crucial role in defending Iraq’s interests throughout the legal proceedings.
The Ministry confirmed that the Lebanese Court of Cassation issued its conclusive decision on March 26, 2025. The ruling upheld the appeal in favor of Rafidain Bank and dismissed the lawsuit permanently. This decision is seen as a significant legal success, showcasing the capability of Iraqi legal professionals to advocate for the state’s rights in international legal arenas.
