Calais: The French Coast Guard rescued 94 illegal migrants as they attempted to illegally cross the English Channel to reach Britain.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Maritime Directorate of the English Channel and the North Sea (Bremar) reported in a statement that its forces had carried out several separate rescue operations over the past two days. They rescued 33 people on one boat, 23 others after their engine failed, and 36 people on a third boat, including one with minor injuries. These operations took place off the coast of the Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions, with two additional people rescued later.

The agency noted that approximately 100 other people were also rescued between Sunday and Tuesday. Improved weather conditions had contributed to hundreds of illegal migrants boarding boats towards the British coast on the other side of the English Channel.

A migrant died last Saturday of a sudden heart attack after suffering multiple injuries resulting from prolonged exposure to fuel mixed with seawater on the boat. Prior to this, 17 people have died since the beginning of the year while trying to reach England by sea. It was revealed that 1,004 people have arrived in Britain illegally on “boats.” “Small rubber boats” were seen between July 23 and 29.

British authorities reported that since the beginning of this year, they have recorded the arrival of more than 24,000 migrants by this route, a record number for this year, despite reaching an agreement with France on the immigration issue on July 10.
