Baiji: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has announced that Baiji is set to become a crucial oil-industrial city, serving as one of the main pillars of the Iraqi economy. During the inauguration of the Baiji oil refinery, Al-Sudani emphasized the challenging process of rehabilitating the refinery, highlighting that it comprises modern technology units and supporting industrial units. The refinery has been restarted through national efforts, maintaining the same level of production as when it was originally established by foreign companies.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani stressed the capability of national competencies in achieving success and implementing projects that were once dominated by foreign companies. He underlined the significance of the economic dimension in prioritizing government projects. The Prime Minister highlighted that by rehabilitating the Baiji refinery, along with other refineries and facilities, Iraq will soon reach the export stage after fulfilling local market demands.

Al-Sudani pointed out the importance of sectors contributing to the economy as part of economic reform, noting an increase in their contribution from 7% to 14%. He remarked on the government’s success in achieving optimal investment in the oil and gas sector to satisfy the market’s needs for petroleum products. The Prime Minister concluded by sharing his comprehensive vision for the oil sector, extending from Basra to Nineveh.
