Baghdad: A number of lawmakers from various parliamentary blocs warned on Saturday against attempts to exploit the “Khor Abdullah” case for political or electoral purposes, stressing their rejection of any efforts to incite unrest or undermine state institutions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during a joint press conference in Baghdad, the head of the “Huqooq” parliamentary bloc, Saud Al-Saadi, stated: “We won the appeal we submitted in 2023, as well as the appeal regarding the border demarcation committees.” He emphasized that the case is of national importance and should not be used for political gain or targeted attacks.

Al-Saadi added, “We submitted the appeal over two years ago, which proves our stance is principled and not tied to any electoral event. We are not interested in engaging in political quarrels or accusations that seek to distort or divert the course of this just cause.”

He accused certain parties of “jumping on the bandwagon” and attempting to incite public opinion with false claims suggesting that “the Khor has become Kuwaiti territory, or that Iraq has completely relinquished it.” He highlighted the importance of the recent clarification issued by the President of the Supreme Judicial Council regarding the legal and constitutional aspects of the case.

Al-Saadi concluded by saying, “We reject this campaign of misinformation and attempts to blur the facts. Our position is firm in reclaiming Iraqi rights. The Khor Abdullah issue is a national cause, not a minor internal dispute, and we strongly oppose any attempts to destabilize public order or overthrow the political system through violence, chaos, or undermining the state’s institutions.”
