Salah al-din: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has announced significant financial allocations aimed at improving energy production across Iraq. During the inauguration of the first phase of the Baiji Gas Power Plant II in Salah al-Din, he emphasized the pivotal role of the energy sector in the country’s comprehensive development plans.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to developing all aspects of energy production, transmission, and distribution. These efforts are aimed at boosting energy output throughout Iraq. The project, which is being implemented by a consortium between Germany’s Siemens and China’s CSCEC, involves the rehabilitation of six Siemens gas-fired generating units, each with a capacity of 169 megawatts (MW), resulting in a total capacity of 1,014 MW.

The project also includes a seven-division 400-kilovolt load shedding network to supply the national grid with six lines. Additionally, a new 132-kV network consisting of 16 lines will be constructed to serve the Salah al-Din Governorate. The first two units of the project are expected to be operational within 27 months, with subsequent units coming online at a rate of one unit every two months.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani officially commenced the implementation work for this critical phase of the Baiji gas-fired power plant, marking a significant milestone in Iraq’s energy sector development.
