Palestinian Prisoners’ Defense Center: Israeli Occupation Continues to Target Gaza’s Medical Personnel; Two Doctors Killed Under Torture

Gaza: The Palestinian Prisoners’ Defense Center confirmed on Sunday that Israeli occupation forces continue to arrest medical personnel in the Gaza Strip under extremely dire humanitarian and health conditions inside detention facilities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in an official statement, the center said, ‘Twenty-four Palestinian doctors have been arrested by Israeli forces and subjected to systematic and brutal torture,’ adding that ‘this abuse led to the death of doctors Adnan Al-Barsh and Iyad Al-Rantisi as a result of severe torture during their detention.’

The center called on the World Health Organization and the United Nations to take urgent and effective action to secure the immediate release of detained Palestinian doctors, urging the international community to intervene and halt these serious violations against healthcare workers.

The statement pointed to reports issued by international organizations, including Physicians for Human Rights and Human Rights Watch, which documented multiple abuses against detained medical staff, including physical torture, psychological violence, and ill-treatment during custody.

According to the center’s data, more than 400 doctors, nurses, administrators, and technicians have been arrested since the outbreak of the war in October 2023 through July 2025.
