Iraqi Navy Detains Liberian Oil Tanker Off the Coast of Basra

Basra: A security source revealed that an Iraqi naval force, in cooperation with the General Company for Iraqi Ports, detained a Liberian-flagged oil tanker off the coast of Basra due to its lack of official paperwork.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the detention of the oil tanker occurred as part of a coordinated effort between the Iraqi naval forces and the General Company for Iraqi Ports. The authorities took action after determining that the vessel did not possess the necessary documentation required for its operations in the region.

The incident highlights ongoing measures being taken by Iraqi authorities to regulate maritime activities within their territorial waters, especially concerning vessels that do not meet legal requirements. The absence of proper documentation raises concerns about the legality and security of operations conducted by such ships in the area.
