Baghdad: In a humanitarian act reflecting the courage and dedication of the Iraqi Army, two officers rescued an Iraqi pilgrim from drowning at dawn today while she was walking toward the holy city of Karbala.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement that Major Karar Haidar and First Lieutenant Sajjad Abbas, serving with the 34th Armored Brigade, spotted the woman falling into the river at around 3:00 a.m. They immediately jumped into the water, pulled her to safety, administered first aid, and transferred her to a nearby medical facility.

The ministry affirmed that this act embodies the armed forces’ commitment to protecting lives and serving pilgrims, highlighting their humanitarian role alongside their security duties.
