Sinjar: The remains of 22 Yazidi Kurds were returned to Sinjar following the release of DNA testing results. Their burials are scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Colonel Shaker Mahmoud, an officer in the Investigation and Evidence Collection Authority in Duhok, stated that since 2018, over 760 remains have been sent from Sinjar to Baghdad for DNA testing. After the results were released, some remains have been returned in seven batches.

Colonel Shaker Mahmoud noted that most of the remains to be buried tomorrow belong to residents of the villages of Kojo and Hardan, as well as the areas of Tal Qasab and Tal Banat. The remains arrived today at the Forensic Medicine Department in Mosul and will be buried tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. in an official ceremony in Sinjar.

This marks the eighth batch of remains from Sinjar victims to be returned following their identification through DNA testing. The first batch contained 62 individuals, the second 42, the third 43, the fourth 55, the fifth 21, the sixth 41, and the seventh 32, with the eighth batch of 22 returning tomorrow.

So far, 62 mass graves have been exhumed in Sinjar, from which 600 remains have been retrieved. Of these, 250 have been returned to their families after examination and identification. ISIS attacked Sinjar in 2014, committing genocide and collectively persecuting the Yazidis.
