Baghdad: The Iraqi National Olympic Committee has declared its adherence to the International and Asian Football Federations' directives concerning the suspension of the Iraqi Football Association elections, emphasizing its opposition to any actions that could tarnish the reputation of Iraqi sports. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Committee's President, Aqeel Muften, conveyed in a press statement on Saturday that they have received official communications from FIFA and the AFC instructing the suspension of the Football Association elections. Muften highlighted their respect for the content of these letters while firmly rejecting any rationale that might damage the standing of Iraqi football. Muften urged the president and members of the IFA Executive Committee to concentrate their efforts on bolstering the national team as it gears up for a crucial phase of the World Cup qualifiers currently underway in Saudi Arabia. He also stressed the necessity of putting aside internal conflicts at this piv otal moment and awaiting the results of FIFA's forthcoming delegation visit to Iraq, ensuring the protection and enhancement of Iraqi football's interests and status.
