Jeddah: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein have emphasized the need for a unified Islamic and Arab effort to support Gaza. An Iranian Foreign Ministry statement revealed that the two leaders met on the sidelines of an extraordinary meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the ministers strongly condemned the Israeli actions that have led to severe shortages of basic necessities such as food, water, and medicine for the people of Gaza. They stressed the urgency for Islamic and Arab nations to take actionable steps to end the blockade, provide humanitarian aid, halt acts of genocide, and ensure accountability for crimes committed.
The statement further mentioned Araghchi’s gratitude towards the Iraqi government and its people for their hospitality during the Arbaeen ceremonies. He described the event as a testament to the unity and strength of Shiites globally.
Additionally, the discussions between Araghchi and Hussein touched upon bilateral relations, highlighting the importance of expanding political and economic cooperation. They also discussed the implementation of existing agreements, such as the security agreement and the Shalamcheh-Basra railway project.
