Baghdad: The General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers has announced the details of an upcoming conference for heads of civil protection agencies, scheduled to take place in Baghdad on August 27-28. The gathering will occur under the patronage of Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and will be hosted by the Ministry of Interior.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the conference will be attended by representatives from the ministries of interior across Arab countries, as well as delegates from the Arab League, the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization, the Arab Center for the Prevention of Earthquake Hazards and Other Natural Disasters, Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, and the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers.
The agenda for the conference includes discussions on several key topics, such as a vision for a field exercise for civil defense agencies in Arab nations, developments in civil defense activities, the dangers of environmental pollution and strategies for combating them, and member states’ plans for intervention in major disasters and accidents. The conference will also consider the establishment of an Arab center to coordinate field cooperation among civil defense agencies during significant disasters and the creation of an electronic platform for these agencies in Arab countries.
Additionally, the results of a competition organized by the General Secretariat for Awareness and Education in the Field of Civil Defense will be announced during the conference. The winning entries will be showcased, and certificates of appreciation will be distributed to member states. The General Secretariat will present the conference recommendations to the next session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers for further action.
