Jeddah: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein reiterated Iraq’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein headed the Iraqi delegation participating in the emergency ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held today, Monday, August 25, 2025, in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to discuss the dangerous developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, in his speech, the Minister affirmed that Iraq stands firmly with the Palestinian people in the face of the genocide they are being subjected to as a result of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. He emphasized that these violations constitute a flagrant violation of international law and human rights and constitute a full-fledged crime that requires an urgent and decisive international response.
He pointed out that the continuation of expansionist plans, particularly the construction of more illegal settlements, undermines de-escalation efforts, stressing that the solution lies in unifying Arab, Islamic, and international positions to confront these practices.
The Minister called for immediate and comprehensive action to achieve a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to the Palestinian people without delay, while emphasizing the need to adhere to international legal references and relevant Security Council resolutions, most notably Resolution 2334 of 2016.
He said, “Iraq renews its steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for self-determination and the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.” He affirmed Baghdad’s readiness to contribute to efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip and alleviate the suffering of civilians.
The Minister concluded his remarks by emphasizing that Iraq will continue its tireless efforts, in coordination with Arab and Islamic countries and the international community, to put an end to the escalation and protect the rights of the Palestinian people.
