Baghdad: The National Committee for Combating Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism held its regular meeting with the heads of sub-committees in ministries, institutions, and governmental bodies to discuss plans, projects, and initiatives for the second half of the current year.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting involved a comprehensive review of the plans and initiatives implemented by the sub-committees in the ministries during the first half of the year, along with the projects planned for completion in the second half of 2025. The evaluation included the work of supporting teams such as the legal team studying a draft law on combating violent extremism, the soft power team focused on prevention, the technology team addressing technological roles, and teams working on combating extremism in Iraqi prisons, promoting anti-violence and anti-extremism thinking among children and adolescents, and highlighting the role of Iraqi women in these efforts. The meeting also identified main challenges to achieving the national strategy's objectives and explored ways to overcome them.

Committee Chairman Ali Abdullah Al-Badiri stated that the committee aims to launch activities, programs, and awareness campaigns targeting extremist discourse in the context of upcoming election campaigns. He announced plans for a national conference next month on combating extremist rhetoric during electoral campaigns, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts by all governmental institutions to rehabilitate displaced persons returning from camps and integrate them into society.
