Baghdad: Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari inspected the ongoing field work to construct an earthen embankment and establish border outposts in Al-Huwaiza Marshes, aimed at tightening border control, curbing smuggling routes, and enhancing security and stability.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Shammari reviewed the final stages of the project carried out by the Border Forces Command within the responsibility sector of the 10th Brigade in the Third Region, near the zero point on the border. The Minister emphasized the strategic importance of Al-Huwaiza Marshes, which are adjacent to the Islamic Republic of Iran and currently lack sufficient border outposts. A 51-kilometer-long embankment is under construction, designed to host a series of outposts that will effectively close smuggling routes, particularly those used for drug smuggling.
Al-Shammari highlighted that work is being conducted around the clock, despite harsh weather conditions, in order to complete the project within the scheduled timeframe. He commended the efforts of the Border Forces Command and other supporting entities for their significant role in implementing this crucial project, which is expected to be a cornerstone for strengthening security and stability in the region.
