Baghdad: A woman has been sentenced to ten years in prison by the Rusafa Criminal Court for her involvement in human trafficking. The court found her guilty of purchasing a child for nine million dinars with the intent to traffic.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Supreme Judicial Council released a statement detailing the arrest of the woman. She was found in possession of the child at her home in one of Baghdad’s districts. The court’s decision was based on the provisions of Articles 6/First and Second of the Anti-Human Trafficking Law No. 28 of 2012, in conjunction with Article 132/2 of the Penal Code.

The case underscores the ongoing efforts of Iraqi authorities to combat human trafficking within the country. The sentencing reflects the legal framework designed to address such crimes and hold offenders accountable.
