Baghdad: National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji discussed cooperation and partnership in the areas of security, economy, and development with the French Ambassador to Baghdad, Patrick Durel. A statement by the Advisory stated: “Al-Araji received Ambassador Durel in his office today, Monday. During the meeting, they discussed strengthening relations between the two countries and continuing cooperation and partnership in the areas of security, economy, and development, in addition to discussing the upcoming visit of the French President to Iraq.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Araji assured the French Ambassador that the Iraqi government welcomes the upcoming visit of the French President, which falls within the context of developing relations between the two countries at the strategic level. The two sides also discussed security developments in the region, stressing that “diplomacy is the best solution to resolving outstanding problems between countries.”

Al-Araji also reiterated that “diplomacy and constructive dialogue distance the region and the world from the specter of war and lead to de-escalation.” The meeting also addressed the upcoming conference, to be held in New York, to share the Iraqi experience and urge countries to withdraw their nationals from the Syrian al-Hawl camp, leading to its complete closure.
