Baghdad: Turkey has called upon nations worldwide to undertake more effective measures to enable the United Nations to address the injustices faced by the Palestinian people. The appeal was made by Turkish Defense Ministry Spokesperson Zeki Aktrk during a press conference held in Ankara. Aktrk highlighted the ongoing situation in Gaza, where, according to him, Israel continues to commit severe atrocities, including the killing of civilians and the imposition of starvation.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Aktrk accused Israel of committing genocide and criticized the international community, particularly the United Nations, for failing to halt these actions. He emphasized the need for increased global pressure on Israel to secure a ceasefire and work towards a sustainable peace grounded in a two-state solution.
Furthermore, Aktrk condemned what he described as Israel’s “malicious” plans to displace Palestinians from Gaza to further its occupation. He reiterated Turkey’s strong opposition to these plans, urging the international community to take a firm stand.
In a separate issue, Aktrk addressed the situation involving the Kurdish SDF in northeastern Syria. He urged the SDF to adhere to the March 10 agreement, which calls for integration with the Syrian army. Aktrk stressed that the SDF’s failure to comply with this agreement poses threats to Syria’s unity and Turkey’s national security.
He reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to supporting the Syrian government when necessary to contribute to regional stability and ensure Turkey’s security. Aktrk highlighted the importance of the SDF’s compliance to maintain Syria’s political unity and territorial integrity, emphasizing Turkey’s determination to combat terrorism in collaboration with the new Syrian administration.
The Syrian government, under President Ahmad al-Sharaa, continues efforts to secure the country following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December 2024. This regime change marked a significant shift after Assad’s 24 years in power, and efforts are ongoing to uphold security and territorial integrity in Syria.
