Washington: US President Donald Trump has suggested that two of the 20 prisoners still being held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip have likely been killed. This comes amid the ongoing humanitarian and political crisis that has plagued the region for months.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump said in a press interview: "I told Hamas we want our hostages back. We've got all the Americans back so far, but now I'm talking mainly about the Israeli hostages." He added that "two kidnapped individuals may have been killed in recent days" among the prisoners believed to be still alive in Gaza, according to the Israeli website i24.

While he did not provide specific details about his future plans, Trump stated that the United States will "resolve the situation in Gaza," without clarifying the nature of this "resolution" or whether it includes diplomatic or military moves.

Trump's statements come at a time when regional and international efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza are continuing, amid growing pressure from public opinion in Israel and the United States to release the prisoners held by Hamas.
