Baghdad: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of the 'New York Declaration' on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, following an overwhelming majority vote in favor of the resolution.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement posted on X platform, the ministry said: 'The State of Palestine welcomes the unanimous vote to adopt the New York Declaration and its annexes, as a key outcome of the UN conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue, held under the chairmanship of Saudi Arabia and France. The resolution was supported by 142 countries, with 12 abstentions and 10 votes against.'

The ministry highlighted that this is the first resolution issued by the General Assembly in its 80th session, expressing gratitude to Saudi Arabia and France for their leadership in the conference and their efforts to transform the New York Declaration into a practical action plan with clear steps across political, economic, legal, and security tracks.

The statement also praised the countries that supported the resolution, emphasizing the importance of making the New York Declaration an official UN document. It called on the international community to implement the conference outcomes, pressure Israel to halt its aggression, stop the use of famine as a weapon of war, prevent forced displacement, and release prisoners and hostages.

The ministry stressed that the next step is 'to activate all means to end the Israeli colonial occupation and achieve the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people,' reaffirming that 'the two-state solution is the only way to confront aggression, crimes, and settlement activities.'

The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution with 142 votes in favor, 10 against, and 12 abstentions.
