Baghdad: MPs from various blocs called on the House of Representatives to expedite the adoption of effective and real legal measures on the ground regarding the water crisis that has ravaged the marshes and lands of Iraq's governorates. MP Adel al-Rikabi said in a joint press conference on Wednesday: "Turkey occupies vast Iraqi lands and is cutting off water to the Iraqi people. The governorates of southern and central Iraq are suffering from the scourge of water scarcity and the drying up of the marshes in Basra, Maysan, and Dhi Qar." He asked "What has Iraq gained from its relationship with Turkey".

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Rikabi addressed the Ministers of Water Resources and Justice to inform Parliament of their intention to file lawsuits against the Turkish side or not, noting: "Turkish companies generate more than $20 million annually from trade with Iraq, while their country continues to cut off water and block river mouths and sources from reaching Iraqi territory."
