Baghdad: Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani announced on Wednesday that Tehran had proposed holding direct negotiations with the United States. However, U.S. Special Envoy Witkoff set a date and later withdrew, which Tehran interpreted as a sign of Washington’s lack of seriousness.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a press statement, Mohajerani clarified that the issue of uranium enrichment does not fall under the government’s sole authority, noting that any final decision to continue or suspend it is made exclusively by the Supreme National Security Council.

These remarks come as Iran’s Supreme Leader continues to firmly reject the idea of direct dialogue with the United States, describing it as unproductive and potentially harmful to the country.
