Baghdad: The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, underscored the importance of ensuring that weapons remain under state control while urging political factions to fulfill their responsibilities in reform efforts. This message was delivered during the central ceremony in Baghdad, where the electoral list of State of Law Coalition candidates was unveiled on Saturday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Maliki stated, "We believe that there is no state without law, and no country can thrive without institutions. Iraq must remain free, sovereign, and independent." He emphasized that holding the elections as planned amidst current tensions is a reassuring gesture, highlighting the political process's success in addressing challenges that arose after the regime's fall.

Al-Maliki further elaborated on the significance of widespread electoral participation, which he views as a testament to national unity. He asserted that security could only be ensured through the strength of the state's security services, insisting that weapons must be controlled by the government. Additionally, he raised concerns about the intense propaganda campaign faced by the Council of Representatives, noting its critical role in driving the political process and holding the government accountable.

In his address, al-Maliki called upon competing political entities to demonstrate responsibility and prevent the electoral competition from devolving into incitement and discord.
