Naples: Iraq and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling mutual challenges, aiming to contribute to international peace and security.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, visited the NATO Joint Command Headquarters in Naples, Italy, where he was received by Admiral Stuart B. Muench, the Commander-in-Chief of the Joint Command in Naples. The meeting was also attended by the Italian Ambassador to Baghdad, Nicola Fontana, along with senior NATO officials.
During the meeting, Admiral Muench congratulated Minister Hussein on Iraqi National Day and expressed NATO’s eagerness to strengthen its partnership with Iraq. The discussions focused on NATO’s support for Iraq’s security and military capabilities, exploring avenues to enhance cooperation, especially in terms of training and expertise exchange with the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.
Minister Hussein expressed appreciation for the deepening relations between Iraq and NATO and acknowledged the significant role of the NATO Mission in Iraq. He reiterated the Iraqi government’s readiness to facilitate further cooperation, aiming to serve the common interests of both Iraq and NATO.
Admiral Muench praised Iraq’s cooperation in implementing partnership and training programs, highlighting Iraq’s key role in promoting regional security and stability. He also expressed hopes for the success of the forthcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, viewing them as a pivotal step towards reinforcing democracy and internal stability.
The meeting also covered current regional and international developments, underscoring the importance of ongoing coordination and consultation between Iraq and NATO. The collaboration aims to address shared challenges effectively, contributing to the maintenance of global peace and security.
