Baghdad: The International Criminal Court (ICC) rejected the Israeli appeal to cancel two arrest warrants issued against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, on charges of genocide in the Gaza Strip. According to National Iraqi News Agency, Israeli media reported that the court rejected the request and confirmed its continued investigation into the war on Gaza. The court ruled in November of last year that there were "reasonable grounds" to believe that Netanyahu and Galant bear "criminal responsibility" for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. The arrest warrants accuse Netanyahu and Galant of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the use of starvation as a weapon of war, preventing the entry of humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip, and widespread targeting of the population and civilian infrastructure. Israel had asked the court last May to cancel the two arrest warrants, but the court rejected the request on July 16, asserting that there was "no legal basis" to cancel the warrants until the issue of jurisdiction was resolved. A week later, Israel sought to appeal the ruling, but the judges ruled on Friday that "the case, as framed by Israel, is not subject to appeal."
