Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has confirmed the implementation of strategic measures aimed at bolstering the private sector and fostering an attractive environment for investments. The announcement comes amidst the launch of the Baghdad International Hospital, a significant project undertaken by the Qatari Investment Holding Company.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sudani welcomed the involvement of Qatari partners, highlighting the collaboration as a testament to the strong ties between Iraq and Qatar. He recalled the visit of Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to Baghdad, during which a series of projects were announced, valued between $5-7 billion across various sectors.
The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to creating an inviting investment climate by cutting red tape and addressing outdated laws that hinder foreign investment. He acknowledged the efforts of several governmental bodies, including the Ministry of Health and the National Investment Commission, in facilitating the project’s progress, ensuring it meets all necessary requirements and timelines.
Al-Sudani further stated the government’s openness to partnerships with distinguished companies, citing the Qatar Investment Holding Company’s involvement as a successful model. He noted that measures to support the private sector have led to investment opportunities exceeding $102 billion, even amidst challenging regional conditions.
Highlighting the government’s focus on the health sector, al-Sudani discussed achievements such as the implementation of the Health Insurance Law and the launch of the Pharmaceutical Industrial City in collaboration with American and British companies. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to improve healthcare infrastructure and services.
The Prime Minister detailed plans for advancing the health sector, including infrastructure development, new hospital construction, and rehabilitation of specialized centers. He underscored the progress in the local pharmaceutical industry and the implementation of the Health Insurance Law, which currently benefits 2.3 million citizens.
In concluding remarks, al-Sudani stressed the importance of joint management with reputable medical institutions to enhance the quality of healthcare services for Iraqi citizens.
