Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed that Iraq’s financial and economic situation is at its best, and that development and reconstruction are continuing throughout the country. His media office stated that Al-Sudani met with a group of Arab and foreign media professionals to discuss various local, regional, and international issues.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani emphasized his commitment to hosting media professionals and researchers from around the world to accurately portray Iraq’s current situation, highlighting the ongoing reconstruction and development efforts in various sectors. He noted a reduction in the financial deficit to 34 trillion dinars while maintaining financial stability, attributing past deficits to inherited policies.
Al-Sudani stressed the importance of a strong parliamentary coalition for economic reforms and highlighted the crucial role of citizen participation in elections. He expressed hope for the Sadrist movement’s involvement in the electoral process and outlined the path for armed groups to integrate into security or political spheres.
He detailed the development vision for Iraq, mentioning $450 billion in investment opportunities. Addressing foreign debt, he clarified the $41 billion debt to the Paris Club, rooted in the former regime, is not the current government’s responsibility.
On energy production, Al-Sudani stated Iraq’s current output and the historic contract with GE to enhance capacity, alongside agreements with Xerleit Energy for American gas supply. He also noted progress in oil revenue discussions with the Kurdistan Region and water management projects with Turkey.
Regarding Ain al-Assad base, Al-Sudani confirmed its control by the Iraqi army, with advisors present for cooperation. He asserted that ISIS no longer poses a security threat and welcomed the appointment of President Trump’s envoy to Iraq, emphasizing the envoy’s Iraqi heritage.
Al-Sudani also addressed regional relations, affirming active embassies in Syria and security coordination against ISIS and drug gangs. He advocated dialogue with Iran and stressed the significance of resolving the Palestinian issue for regional stability.
