Tehran: Security delegations from Iraq and Iran held a significant session at the National Security Council in Tehran to address border security concerns between the two nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting featured high-ranking officials, with Iraq's delegation led by National Security Advisor Qassem al-Araji and Iran's delegation headed by Secretary-General of the Iranian National Security Council, Ali Larijani. The session included a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and focused on the joint security agreement concerning border security. Discussions also covered the status of Iranian Kurdish opposition parties and Iraq's commitments regarding the removal of these groups from the border, as well as the cessation of their military and political activities.

The session further evaluated the steps already taken and the challenges encountered in securing the border. The Iraqi delegation reiterated its commitment to prevent any party from using Iraqi territory against neighboring countries. Economic aspects and strategies to enhance border security were also on the agenda. The Iranian delegation acknowledged Iraq's efforts and its adherence to the Joint Security Agreement, which has contributed to improved security.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to form a field committee tasked with monitoring the implementation of the steps outlined in the agreement. In a press conference following the session, Al-Araji underscored Iraq's resolve not to allow its land to be used for hostile actions against Iran, highlighting the strong relationship between the two nations.

Larijani, for his part, praised Iraq's role and ongoing cooperation in enhancing security and stability, noting the historical ties between the two countries.
