Kirkuk: The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has called for calm and self-restraint amid rising tensions in the Altun Kupri district, located northwest of Kirkuk. This follows recent events that have heightened tensions between the Kurdish and Turkmen communities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the KDP issued a statement emphasizing the importance of addressing the situation through legal channels. The party has been actively engaging with relevant authorities to manage the situation and ensure the safety of citizens. The statement highlighted that actions outside the law are unacceptable and stressed the need for the law to be the guiding force in resolving disputes.

The KDP has reportedly been in contact with Mohammed Semaan, the head of the Turkmen Front, to promote dialogue and peaceful resolution. The party urged security and administrative bodies in Kirkuk to implement necessary legal measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. It assured that the electoral process will proceed as planned, within a secure and stable environment.

Furthermore, the KDP’s statement underlined the importance of maintaining harmony among the Kurdish, Turkmen, and Arab communities in Kirkuk. It called for an end to hate speech and incitement, advocating for a peaceful and responsible electoral competition devoid of tension and violence.
