Baghdad: The US State Department has approved a potential sale of foreign military equipment to Iraq, including a nationwide communications and signal repeater system, valued at approximately $100 million, the Pentagon announced. The sale aims to bolster Iraq’s command and control capabilities, aiding its defense efforts against regional threats.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) stated that Iraq requested to purchase wireless communications equipment, signal repeater and amplifier systems. The request includes training, technical and logistical support, and the necessary infrastructure to secure communications for its forces.

The State Department confirmed its approval of the $100 million sale of communications and radio systems to Iraq. The agency highlighted that the deal will enhance Iraq’s ability to protect its borders, energy infrastructure, and population, while also advancing US security interests. It was emphasized that this sale will not threaten or destabilize other countries in the region.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency further clarified that it submitted the required sales certification to Congress on Thursday, marking a significant step in the progression of the deal.
