Duhok: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has confirmed that the Coordination Framework is set to initiate discussions with political blocs concerning the formation of leadership positions, following smoothly conducted parliamentary elections.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani shared these insights during his participation in the Middle East Peace and Security Forum organized by the American University in Duhok. He emphasized the substantial progress made in resolving long-standing issues between the central government and the Kurdistan region. Al-Sudani noted that while parliamentary election results are pivotal, they have not solely determined government formation, highlighting the Reconstruction and Development Coalition's role within the Coordination Framework as the largest bloc.
The Prime Minister clarified that his pursuit of a second term is driven by responsibility rather than personal ambition, aiming to fulfill tasks and implement a vision for Iraq's future. He stressed the importance of adhering to constitutional timelines for government formation and maintaining a stable electoral law to prevent vote wastage. Al-Sudani called on representatives to address this issue to avoid electoral losses.
Addressing the relationship between Baghdad and Erbil, Al-Sudani stated that there are no political problems between the governments, acknowledging progress in overcoming inherited issues, such as company contracts and resuming oil exports. He emphasized that the interests of the Kurdistan people are on par with those of all Iraqis.
Al-Sudani reiterated Iraq's stance against foreign influence, dismissing media rumors of external pressures. He underlined Iraq's respect for its international relations and emphasized a clear developmental vision to end gas flaring and halt gas imports by 2028. The Prime Minister highlighted unprecedented financial reforms and the creation of an investment-friendly environment, with over 50 factories now exporting products internationally.
He also reported a decrease in the unemployment rate from 17% to 13%, advocating for young Iraqis to consider opportunities in the private sector. The "Riyada" initiative, according to Al-Sudani, has successfully attracted 550,000 young men and women, promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.
