Baghdad: The Independent High Electoral Commission announced the disqualification of six candidates since the end of the electoral process, confirming “real changes” in the results and seat allocation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Hassan Salman, the commission’s legal advisor, stated in a televised interview that “the number of candidates disqualified since the elections until now has reached six,” explaining that “the latest disqualification resulted from an appeal challenging the eligibility of one of the candidates, which led to the appeal being successful and his disqualification.”

He added that “there have been real changes in the results, as some lists lost seats that were allocated to them after the disqualification of winning candidates,” revealing “a change in the women’s quota in Nineveh Governorate, where the quota seat was transferred from one list to another, and the seat was replaced by a male candidate on the list that previously held the quota.”

He clarified that “disqualification decisions based on appeals regarding eligibility do not necessitate reopening polling stations or manual recounting,” emphasizing that “any notification or appeal received by the Commission before final ratification by the Federal Court will be reviewed by the Board of Commissioners, which will then make the necessary decision.”
