Ankara: The Turkish Foreign Ministry has affirmed its commitment to supporting Syria’s stability, security, and prosperity as the country marks the first anniversary of the conclusion of its civil war and the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. In a statement issued today, the ministry emphasized Ankara’s dedication to aiding Syria “in the strongest possible way.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Foreign Ministry highlighted the achievements of Syria’s new government over the past year, noting its adoption of a wise and peaceful foreign policy despite facing numerous challenges. The ministry praised the administration’s “firm steps towards achieving the prestigious position that Syria deserves” on the international stage.

In a symbolic gesture this morning, mosques across Syria reverberated with “Victory Takbirs” (Allahu Akbar) to commemorate the anniversary of Assad’s regime’s fall, following an invitation from the Ministry of Religious Endowments. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa participated in the Fajr (dawn) prayer at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. In his speech, he expressed a vision for rebuilding a “strong Syria” that honors its historical legacy through devotion to divine principles and justice.

The country has been celebrating its liberation from Assad’s regime following the “Deterring Aggression” battle, which commenced on November 27, 2024, in Aleppo province. The conflict culminated in the rebels’ entry into Damascus 11 days later, marking December 8, 2024, as the end of an era defined by severe repression and civilian rights violations throughout the 14-year revolution from 2011 to 2024.
