Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani affirmed the government’s commitment to implementing a comprehensive national plan aimed at advancing Iraq into the group of countries with high human development rankings.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani attended on Monday the ceremony launching Iraq’s 2025 Human Development Report.

In his speech, Al-Sudani praised the report’s findings, which reveal that Iraq has moved from the medium human development category to the high human development category for the first time in its history. He emphasized that this progress should serve as a motivation to achieve even greater advancement, guided by a strategic plan that aspires to elevate Iraq to the very high human development tier.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the national and international efforts that contributed to the report, commending the Ministry of Planning, the advisory committee, and international experts for their role in supporting this significant achievement. Al-Sudani explained that the 2025 National Human Development Report is distinguished by its boldness, realism, neutrality, and objectivity, describing it as an important opportunity to reinforce the principles of citizenship.

He noted that the government has worked to provide detailed, updated, and reliable human development indicators across the provinces through extensive field surveys. He underscored the importance of human development reports, which are closely followed worldwide due to their direct impact on people’s well-being. Al-Sudani added that, following victory over terrorism, Iraq has regained its capacity to close developmental gaps and reaffirm its standing among nations by adopting sound development strategies.

He stressed that the report’s findings will support policymakers and decision-makers in identifying areas of progress and decline, calling for acceptance of constructive criticism and action to address shortcomings. The Prime Minister also highlighted the significant political and security stability achieved in the country, along with ongoing efforts to diversify Iraq’s economy by capitalizing on its promising human capital.

He concluded by stating that Iraq is moving forward with progressively aligned policies to become, by 2035, part of the group of countries with very high human development levels, noting that the nation is witnessing an economic upswing and human development renaissance supported by a connected digital world that opens new opportunities for young people in fields that were unavailable in previous years.
