Basra: Outer Checkpoints at the entrances of Basra apprehended individuals wanted on various legal charges, as well as violators, and thwarted an attempt to smuggle workers into the province.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Police Command stated in a press release that security measures resulted in the arrest of individuals smuggling workers through checkpoints along with their vehicle. They were handed over to police stations for legal proceedings.
The statement added, “Two suspects were arrested with hashish in their possession, and a young woman from outside the province was apprehended without identification documents and is suspected of having run away from her family.” The statement also indicated that fifty vehicles were impounded for traffic violations, and legal action was taken against the violators.
