Basra: The Deputy Governor of Basra, Maher al-Amiri, has called for expatriate Christian families to return to Iraq, highlighting the city's security stability and significant urban development. A Mass celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ was recently held at the Sisters' Church in Basra, attended by al-Amiri and Nael al-Kaldani, a member of the Basra Provincial Council. According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Amiri stated that the local government extends its congratulations and blessings to the Christian community across Iraq, particularly in Basra Governorate. He emphasized Basra's history as a haven of peaceful coexistence for Iraqis of various backgrounds. Al-Amiri also noted the efforts of the Basra local government, led by the Governor, to support the Christian community. These efforts include initiatives to restore churches in coordination with Provincial Council member Nael al-Kaldani and the provision of employment opportunities for Christians in compliance with legal regulations. The Deput y Governor expressed his hope that Christian families living abroad would consider returning to Basra province, citing the improved security situation and the urban development that has transformed the city in recent years.
