Karbala: A mass grave believed to contain victims of the former regime during the 1991 Sha’ban uprising has been discovered in the holy city of Karbala.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a security source informed that workers at a construction site near the city center, specifically in the Bab Turaij area, unearthed a pit containing the remains of several individuals. These remains are believed to belong to victims of the former regime during the 1991 Sha’ban uprising.

The source further stated that the site has been cordoned off, and all construction activities have been halted. A specialized team from Baghdad is expected to arrive to exhume the remains and complete the necessary legal procedures.
