Kirkuk: The Disaster and Flood Committee has warned of dangerous flash floods flowing through valleys that drain into the Lower Zab River, due to a significant increase in water discharges.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the committee stated that the high water releases from Dibis Dam toward the course of the Lower Zab River pose a serious risk to nearby areas. It urged residents and villages located along both banks of the river to immediately stay away from riverbeds and valleys, avoid approaching the riverbanks, and refrain from attempting to cross roads affected by flowing water, in order to protect lives and property.

A specialized source explained that water releases from Dibis Dam into the Lower Zab River have currently reached 550 cubic meters per second, compared to 20 cubic meters per second recorded yesterday, noting that the rise is due to floodwaters entering the river.

The committee also called on administrative units, civil defense teams, and security forces to exercise maximum cau
tion and warn residents against approaching the river.
