Baghdad: The Ministry of Justice announced the release of 899 inmates from various Iraqi correctional facilities during the month of December, in accordance with established legal procedures and the follow-up of specialized auditing and review committees.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, 491 inmates were released based on the General Amnesty Law after the completion of legal procedures and confirmation of their eligibility under the law’s provisions. An additional 408 inmates were released under other judicial decisions.
The Ministry emphasized that the releases are carried out after reviewing inmate files, verifying compliance with all legal requirements, and in continuous coordination with relevant authorities. This ensures the fair and accurate application of the law and safeguards the rights of the state, society, and inmates alike.
