Russia Condemns US Military Intervention in Venezuela and Calls for UN Security Council Meeting

Moscow: The Russian Foreign Ministry has condemned the United States’ military intervention in Venezuela, emphasizing the need to prevent further escalation and to seek a solution through dialogue. A statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry described the US actions as an “act of armed aggression,” labeling the situation as alarming and reprehensible.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement criticized the pretexts used to justify the US actions as baseless, suggesting that ideological hostility has overshadowed practical pragmatism and the desire to build relations based on trust and transparency. The ministry underscored the importance of preventing further escalation and preparing for a solution through dialogue. It urged all partners with mutual claims to resolve issues through understanding and dialogue, expressing Russia’s readiness to support such efforts.

The statement also highlighted the importance of maintaining Latin America as a zone of peace, as declared in 2014. It stressed that Venezuela’s right to self-determination must be guaranteed without foreign interference, including military intervention. The Russian Foreign Ministry reiterated its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and support for the Bolivarian leadership’s efforts to protect national interests and sovereignty. Furthermore, it supported the statement by Venezuelan authorities and Latin American leaders calling for an immediate UN Security Council meeting.
