Tehran: Thousands of people have staged protests in cities across the United States following a US attack on Venezuela and the abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, demonstrators took to the streets from Washington, DC, to New York, where Maduro has reportedly been transferred for trial, questioning the Trump administration’s policies and condemning the war against Venezuela.

Rallies were held in more than 75 cities across the US, where anti-war protesters expressed strong anger over the use of American taxpayers’ money to fuel US war-making policies.

In New York’s Times Square, protesters carried placards calling on the Trump administration not to interfere in Venezuela and demanding Maduro’s release.

Demonstrators chanted in unison, ‘Hands off Venezuela,’ echoing calls heard in other cities.

Slogans written on placards read, ‘Fund jobs and education, not war and occupation,’ highlighting protesters’ demands for domestic spending priorities instead of foreign military intervention.

A similar crowd also gathered outside the White House in Washington, DC, where demonstrators once again chanted, ‘Hands off Venezuela,’ underscoring growing domestic opposition to the Trump administration’s actions against the Latin American country.
