Earthquake Measuring 3.3 Strikes Beirut, No Damage Reported


Beirut: An earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale struck the Lebanese capital, Beirut, as reported by the Lebanese Center for Geophysics on Sunday. Residents felt the tremor, but no damage was reported.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the earthquake occurred at midnight and was located in the Mediterranean Sea, approximately 50 kilometers off the Lebanese coast. It was felt by residents of Beirut in particular, as well as in several other areas of Lebanon.



The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported the earthquake’s magnitude as 4.1 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers below the Earth’s surface at 12:50 AM local time in Beirut. Residents of the Syrian and Lebanese coasts, as well as Beirut itself, felt the tremor, but no damage was reported.
