Damascus: The Syrian government announced today, Sunday, the signing of an agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) stipulating the immediate and complete administrative and military handover of the Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa governorates to the Syrian government.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the agreement involves the integration of all civilian institutions in Hasakah Governorate into the Syrian state institutions and their administrative structures. This move includes the Syrian government’s takeover of all border crossings and oil and gas fields in the region.
The agreement further specifies the integration of all SDF military and security elements into the structures of the Ministries of Defense and Interior. Additionally, the SDF leadership has committed not to include remnants of the former regime in its ranks.
The agreement also calls for the removal of heavy military presence from the city of Ain al-Arab (Kobani) and the formation of a security force comprised of the city’s residents. Furthermore, it includes the issuance of a presidential decree to appoint a candidate for the position of governorate of Hasakah, ensuring political participation and local representation.
