The Iranian Consul in Najaf Emphasizes Support for Peaceful Protests and Condemns Extremism

Najaf: The Iranian Consul in Najaf, Saeedi Seydin, affirmed that his government supports peaceful demonstrations and protests demanding improved services and living conditions, but opposes extremism, resorting to violence, and targeting security forces and civilians.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Seydin stated in a press conference that ‘peaceful and popular protests demanding improved services and living conditions occur throughout the year in the country and are of concern to Ayatollah Khamenei, the government, and the parliament.’ However, he added that ‘these protests have been exploited by terrorist and armed groups with the support of America and Israel.’

He emphasized the continued internet blackout in Iran until the situation is resolved and normalcy is restored across the country.

Regarding relations with Iraq, the Iranian Consul affirmed the depth and development of the relationship between the two countries, particularly in economic, social, and tourism sectors, noting that more than 8 million Iranian pilgrims visit the holy shrines in Iraq annually.
