Erdogan Discusses With Al-Sharaa The Latest Developments In Syria

Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held talks with his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa, regarding bilateral relations and the latest developments in Syria.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, this came during a phone call between the two leaders, as reported by Burhanettin Duran, the head of the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Directorate, on the Turkish social media platform “InSocial.”

During the call, Erdogan affirmed to al-Sharaa that Turkey’s support for Syria’s unity, territorial integrity, stability, and security would continue to grow in numerous areas, particularly in the fight against terrorism. He emphasized that the complete eradication of terrorism from Syrian territory is essential for Syria and the entire region.

The phone call between Erdogan and al-Sharaa came hours after al-Sharaa announced the signing of a ceasefire agreement and the full integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with the Syrian government. This followed a military operation launched by the Syrian army, which recaptured large areas in the east and northeast of the country, after the SDF repeatedly violated agreements signed with the Damascus government about a year ago and failed to implement their terms, according to Turkish media.

The Syrian government has been making intensive efforts to establish security in the country since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2014.
