Interior Minister: Our Iraqi Borders Are Fully Secured, And Any Approach Will Be Met With Gunfire


Baghdad: Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari confirmed today, Monday, that the Iraqi border with Syria is fully secured, indicating that any approach to the border will be met with gunfire. Al-Shammari highlighted the measures taken to ensure the integrity of the borders, underscoring the readiness of the forces stationed there.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Shammari stated in a press release, “We monitor and follow daily what is happening in Syria, and we anticipated these events three years ago. We have fortified the international borders, especially with Syria, and we have dug a 620-kilometer-long trench along the border.”



He elaborated on the security measures in place, saying, “We have thermal cameras operating day and night at border points.” He emphasized the strict protocol that “any approach to the Iraqi border will be met with gunfire,” signaling a strong stance on border security.



Al-Shammari assured that “our forces on the border are sufficient and all are fully equipped and staffed,” with “reserve units ready to intervene in any emergency.” He further noted that “the security forces on the Iraqi border are supported by army aviation and the air force,” highlighting the comprehensive security strategy in place. He concluded by reiterating his confidence in the security measures, stating that “our Iraqi borders are fully secured and we are not worried.”
