Fuad Hussein Proposes Position Swap to Secure Presidency for KDP

Baghdad: Fuad Hussein, the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) presidential candidate, has declared the party’s willingness to relinquish all positions allocated to the Kurds in Baghdad to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in exchange for securing the presidency.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, in an interview with the Kurdish media network Rudaw, firmly denied any rumors regarding his withdrawal from the presidential race. He stated, “I have not withdrawn. What is being said is mere propaganda. My position is currently good, and I enjoy strong support from the political blocs and forces.”

Fuad Hussein also addressed the ongoing negotiations with the PUK, expressing optimism about reaching a consensus. He emphasized the potential for an agreement, stating, “There is still hope for reaching an agreement.”

The KDP candidate outlined details of a new proposal put forth by his party to the PUK. He explained, “If we agree on a joint candidate (which is myself), the Democratic Party is prepared to place the positions it holds in Baghdad at the disposal of the Patriotic Union.”
