The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament: Attempts to Impose External Wills Pose a Direct Threat to Global Peace and Stability

Baghdad: The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, affirmed that attempts to impose external wills and bypass international charters pose a direct threat to global peace and stability.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement issued by his media office revealed that Al-Dulaimi met on Wednesday with Iraq’s ambassadors and senior officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, congratulating them on gaining the confidence of the government and the Parliament. He emphasized that the legislative authority will remain a strong pillar of support for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its diplomatic missions by activating legislative and oversight tools to ensure the success of their mission in representing Iraq in a manner befitting its historical standing.

Al-Dulaimi stressed that Iraq today needs to adopt what he described as ‘national identity diplomacy’ to confront current challenges, noting that the region is going through a critical phase that requires heightened political and diplomatic awareness. He warned that violations of international law could drag the world toward grave consequences.

He explained that Iraq’s position at the center of regional tensions necessitates the establishment of an effective diplomatic system capable of safeguarding the state’s supreme interests and the political system. He also underscored the importance of highlighting national achievements despite the magnitude of challenges, considering diplomatic work as the first line of defense against external threats.

The First Deputy Speaker further emphasized that ambassadors must reflect Iraq’s national identity and uphold democratic principles, calling on them to provide the Parliament with regular and accurate reports on how Iraqi citizens, both residents abroad and travelers, are treated by host countries. He stressed the activation of the ‘principle of reciprocity’ as a fundamental pillar of diplomatic relations to ensure the dignity of Iraqis abroad and reinforce the prestige of the state.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by the Council of Representatives to provide all necessary means for the success of the diplomatic system, recognizing it as the most vital tool for crisis management and for asserting Iraq’s rights in international forums.
